Digital Kitchen Scales and Counting Calories

The weight loss secret:

Losing weight is really just a numbers game and a digital kitchen scale can be a vital tool to have in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Everything about weight loss really boils down to numbers.  How much do you weigh, how much weight do you want to lose, how many calories are you consuming, how many minutes should you excercise?

People try to make weight loss more complicated than it really needs to be.  Assuming there are no medical reasons for your weight gain, most people can have effective weight loss results by knowing how many calories you need to consume on a daily basis and how many calories you actually are consuming.

For example, a male who weighs 175 lbs. and is 5' 11" in height needs to consume around 2300 calories per day to maintain that weight.  If you want to lose a pound a week then you should consume around 1800 calories per day.  Of course you should excercise as part of your weight loss strategy.  Every action as an effect on your numbers.  Eat more and you'll add more calories to your daily total.  Excercise more and you'll burn (subtract) calories from your daily total.

The best way to accurately measure how many calories you're consuming is to have a specialized digital kitchen scale (sometimes called a diet or nutrition scale).  These devices are really sophisticated nutritional computers.  They are pre-programmed with hundreds of food items and all the important metrics that you want to know; such as amount of calories, fat, sodium, carbs and cholesterol in the particular food item.  And since digital kitchen scales also measure the weight of the food product, you'll know exactly how much you're eating.  For example, you would input a numeric code for an item like a banana.  Then place the banana on the scale and in a few seconds you'll have a reading of the exact number of calories, etc. that you are consuming from that banana.

Keep track of these numbers with free online weight management websites to track your progress over time.  If you follow this routine on a daily basis you will begin to see results in as little as one week.  It becomes habit to count your calories and soon you'll do it without even thinking about it.
